You must invoke your Weingarten Rights at the beginning of any meeting in which you have a reasonable belief that discipline will result from the interrogation by your supervisor, your supervisor does not have to inform you of this right. If after invoking your Weingarten Rights your supervisor continues to conduct the meeting, you need to reply to your supervisor that your would be happy to answer any and all questions when you  are provided with your right to a Union Representative. You are not to leave the meeting until you are informed by your supervisor that you are free to go. Leaving the meeting without permission may result in discipline for insubordination.  Members should always notify their Steward or Field representative whenever they feel that they may be called into a disciplinary meeting or immediately after a meeting that they felt may lead to discipline has occurred. Understanding your rights is essential part of belonging to a labor organization. If you are unsure of your rights it is important to read your Memorandum of Understanding, employment policies & procedures and seek assistance from your Steward and/or your Field Representative prior to finding yourself in a situation requiring you to invoke your rights as a union member. Knowledge is power, your participation in unions are essential for protecting yourself and adding to increased job security through a united effort.

Text Box: Local 620 members and staff have been busy in the northern turf negotiating contracts, conducting field campaigns and, representing fellow members. We are preparing to enter into negotiations in Cambria CSD and the City of Santa Maria later in the year. We are  voting on a proposal to extend the current contract with San Luis Coastal Unified School District  (monetary issues) for this year.

This year per negotiated contracts, members in the City of Atascadero and City of Pismo Beach will receive an enhanced retirement formula of 2.5% at 55.

We are continuing to work on representational issues with San Luis Obispo Superior Court due recent and on-going anti-union tactics by Court Administration.  The Court Administration is violating members rights of representation at disciplinary meetings (Weingarten Rights).  Local 620 has filed appeals from discipline; grievances & complaints. We have also filed a complaint with State Public Employees Relations Board (PERB). Members have also conducted a survey of San Luis Obispo Superior Court Administration’s  performance and treatment of the workforce.  We are in the planning phase of a campaign to determine the appropriate methods to share this information with the general public and the Judicial Branch of the Court. Our goal is to restore a professional and ethical atmosphere to San Luis Obispo Superior Court.
