For the past two years SEIU Local 620 has been losing approximately $8,000 a year on a small, but growing segment of our membership because the minimum rate or ‘floor’ of our dues structure, which is currently $5.85 bi-weekly, is not enough to fulfill our per capita tax payments to the International Union, the SEIU State Council, the California Federation of Labor, etc.  This is becoming a more serious concern as Local 620continues to represent more part-time and/or low wage employees.

In order to mitigate this problem SEIU Local 620 Executive Board Members are proposing that the membership vote on increasing the minimum rate (floor) of our dues structure in order to break even.  If the members approve, we won’t ‘make money’ on this proposal, but we stop losing money on Members at that level (the floor).  No other changes to our dues structure are proposed.

If the membership approves this ‘breakeven’ approach the minimum dues will increase from $5.85 to $7.25 bi-weekly.  This increase will only affect those whose dues are at the minimum rate.  Currently there are approximately 110 Local 620 Members who are at the minimum dues rate.

In the next couple of weeks we will be holding Special Membership Meetings throughout the region to explain and allow Members to vote on the proposed new ‘floor’.  In order for the minimum rate increase to pass a majority of those Members actually voting will be required.

Only dues paying Local 620 Members who attend one of the Special Membership Meetings below will be able to vote.
